Dr. Arun Thangaraj

Dr. Arun Thangaraj is a renowned physician from Chennai specialising in Interventional Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology.

He accomplished his Medical Graduation- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1997 from Coimbatore Medical College, Post Graduation- Doctor of Medicine (MD) in General medicine in 2006 and Super Specialty- Doctorate in medicine (DM) in Medical Gastroenterology in 2012 from Kilpauk medical college.

Dr. Thangaraj is currently working as Consultant Gastroenterologist and Liver Transplant Hepatologist at MIOT International Hospital, Chennai which is a 1000 bedded hospital and has an advanced center for Gastroenterology. This hospital caters to patients from Gulf especially Oman, UAE and Iraq apart from 120 other countries.

He has done more than 3000 upper GI endoscopies, 600 colonoscopies, 100 variceal ligations and sclerotherapies, 50 PEG procedures and endoscopic dilatations and 25 colonoscopic polypectomies and nasojejunal tube placements, 10 argon plasma coagulation and 60 ERCP and few EUS. He has also deployed numerous esophageal, stomach and colonic stents. Dr. Thangaraj has reported numerous esophageal and anorectal manometries, video capsule endoscopies and 24 hour ph monitoring. He is a part of Liver Transplant Team and has assisted 50 transplants in pretransplant assessment and post transplant care.

He also teaches 3 DNB students in superspeciality programme and is incharge of academic and endoscopic training for the fellows in training.

Previously, he has worked as Non Postgraduate Junior Resident in Medicine Department in 1998 at JIPMER, Puducherry and as Medical Officer at Primary Health Centre in Kolarpatti, Coimbatore (2000-2003). He has also worked as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanley Medical College (2006-2009).

Dr. Thangaraj has cleared part 1 of  Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) United Kingdom (UK) and has scored 8 out of 9 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Outside work, his hobbies include quizzing, painting and reading books. He likes to travel and explore new destinations, giving speeches and is keen on writing articles and books. He also plays soccer and badminton.
